Tires are to cars what legs are to us, humans. Your car tires support the weight of your vehicle. There are several benefits of having good tires. The right tires for your car will improve its fuel efficiency, handling, and overall safety.

Here are some tips for choosing the right tires for your vehicle.

Evaluate Your Options
Different types of tires available at the market include all-season tires and summer tires. If you need tires that deliver decent, well-rounded performance, opt for all-season tires with S and T ratings, but remember they do not perform well in extreme weather conditions.

Summer tires are great for dry/wet braking. If you own a sports car, opt for high-performance tires designed to offer sporty handling, superior grip, and fast responsiveness.

Things to Check Before Buying a Tire
Size
Your tire size has a significant impact on comfort, noise levels, fuel economy, and your car’s performance. You can find the size of the tire mentioned on the sidewall. To correctly determine the size of a tire, you must check the rim size, tread width, and height of the sidewalls.

Rim Size
Make sure the size of the rim and that of your new tires match. A larger rim will decrease the height of the sidewall and adversely impact the handling and performance of your vehicle.

Tread Width
Tread width will affect your vehicle’s ride quality and its performance. When checking tread width, consider your driving style and the type of vehicle you own.

If, for instance, you have a sporty car that generates lots of power, or you maintain high speed into a corner, look for a tire with a wider tread. If you want to improve fuel economy or steering response or often drive in city traffic, look for a tire with a narrower tread.

Sidewall Height
Choose a sidewall height that will keep your new tires' overall size similar to that of your existing tires.

Tread Pattern
Another critical characteristic of your tire that will affect your overall driving experience and your car’s performance is its tread pattern. There are three types of tread patterns.

Traditional Tread
Conventional tread can be run in both directions and can be mounted on the wheel either way. A tire with a conventional tread pattern is excellent at channeling away water.

Uni-directional Tread
A tire with a unidirectional tread pattern should be rotated in a single direction (the sidewall should mention the direction in which it should be rotated).

Rubber Compound
The tire's rubber compound will affect its ability to maintain traction on different surfaces and treadwear characteristics. Look for a tire made from high-quality rubber.
